Security in WLAN- Review of Security and Throughput Tradeoff
نویسنده
چکیده
An IEEE 802.11 WLAN is a group of wireless nodes located within a moderate physical area. It provides intensified productivity, less cost of installation and mobility. The open to air nature of wireless channel that give us great convenience of mobility also make it vulnerable to attack. Various security issues are described in paper. The tradeoff between security and throughput is main focus in WLAN.As if the security increases the throughput gradually decreases. To solve this problem various techniques are used which reduces this problem. Keywords— Throughput; Encryption; Decryption; X-OR; WLAN

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Wireless Network Throughput and Security Protocol Integration
Wireless network security protocols are essential for enhancing security, privacy and confidentiality. However, network security protocols also require network resources in other to carry out authentication of users through the use of encryption keys and packet encryption. It is therefore relevant to investigate the effects of the amount of resources used by recommended wireless network securit...
متن کاملOn the Impact of Security on the Performance of WLANs
This paper investigates the impact of security on the performance of WLAN. More specifically, it analyzes the impact of different implementations of encryption techniques used by two security protocols, namely Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) on the throughput over WLAN IEEE 802.11g. This paper also addresses the different issues related to the security protocols ...
